Description

Ticking refers to the presence of flecks or spots of colour on the white areas of the coat. Ticking is expressed on any white area, as long as the white is ‘real’ white ( i.e. so long as it's caused by the white spotting series and not by a phaeomelanin intensity gene such as the I locus). A DNA test for ticking is now available for the first time. The test is relevant in breeds which has white spotting. In breeds where white spotting does not occur, even if the dog has the ticking gene it will not be expressed.
