The Disease
Oculocutaneous Albinism (OCA) is a group of congenital developmental disorder characterized by complete or partial loss of melanin in skin, hair and eye. OCA is caused due to defects in genes associated with melanin biosynthetic pathway. OCA can be associated with visual sensitivity or impairment. In affected Bullmastiff the disease is caused by a deletion in exon 6 of the SLC 45A2 gene.
