Description |

ELISA
AMH is a glycoprotein that is crucial for sexual differentiation during embryonic development. In female animals AMH is secreted from the Granulosa cells of preantral and small antral follicles. In the mare Granulosa-cell tumours (GCT) are the most frequent tumour of the genital tract. Parallel to Human medicine a new diagnostic approach was followed for GCTs in mares. Mares with GCTs showed significantly higher levels of AMH compared to healthy mares. Sensitivity of the test was 95%.
In stallions AMH is expressed in Sertoli cells. Levels stay high until puberty, then decrease parallel to increasing testosterone secretion. Nevertheless stallions and cryptorchid can clearly be differentiated from castrated animals. AMH in male animals is a useful biomarker for the presence of testicular tissue and thus can be used for diagnosis of cryptorchidism. The test also works in young castrated animals.
