- The heat-stable isoenzyme of AP is induced by endogenous steroid hormones or by cortisone therapy and can be used to diagnose overtreatment with steroids.
- Only useful in combination with the determination of the 'total AP' if it is elevated. With the sum of all isoenzymes of AP ('total AP') and the heat-stable AP, the residual activity of AP can be determined in percentage.
