This test identifies whether a Giardia infection belongs to Assemblage A or B, the two assemblages most relevant for assessing potential zoonotic risk. The analysis is performed in two steps: we first run a Standard Giardia PCR
, and if the result is positive, we proceed with assemblage differentiation.
Please note that this test can only distinguish between Assemblage A and Assemblage B. A negative result on the differentiation step does not exclude the presence of other Giardia assemblages (e.g., C, D, E, F), and therefore does not rule out zoonotic potential.
When to use this test:
- To further characterise a Giardia-positive sample
- To assess whether the detected strain belongs to a potentially zoonotic assemblage
- For epidemiological investigations or cases with public-health relevance
