Infection with Clostridium tetani can occur through wound contamination. Under exclusion of air, the pathogen multiplies and produces toxins. This causes clinical signs
which include stiff gait, contracted facial muscles (“risus sardonicus” in dogs) up to generalised contraction of the extensor muscles.
In horses, please check
Tetanus (Clostridium tetani Neurotoxin) (vaccination control horse)
Please note tha the test in horses is performed in house where as in dogs, sheeps, goats and rabbits, it is performed by a partner lab
