Description |
Marek's disease is highly contagious, affecting the nervous system and and characterised by the presence of tumours in the internal organs of affected birds.The disease may also affect turkeys, pheasants, quail and game birds but is less common. It can be a problem in household flocks, especially those that are not vaccinated.

Marek's disease is caused by Gallid Herpesvirus-2. It affects both commercial and backyard poultry and may result in death or severe production loss. . Clinical signs include hind limb or wing paralysis, dyspnoea, depression, weakness, tumors on feather follicles, blindness and a withered comb. |
